July was a blur. Birthdays, weddings, life in general.......it was busy, busy. Earlier in the month my son celebrated his second birthday {sniff, sniff - he's growing up so fast}. The party was a farm theme complete with pony rides & a small petting zoo. The kids LOVED all the animals - the baby pigs were a huge hit! I loved getting crafty and seeing all my hard work come together just as I had envisioned it - seeing all the happy, smiling kids (especially how happy my son was) was a great bonus! Here are some pictures of my little man's big day:<br />

and floral pins. Just stick the balloons to the wreath with your pins and TA-DA!</td></tr>

</tbody></table>All of the signs pictured (wreath sign, banners, thank you sign, food sign, etc.), I created with my Silhouette. I can't tell you how much easier that made my life. If you don't have one, you really need to ask Santa for one this Christmas (btw, I do not get paid any money whatsoever from Silhouette.....I just love their machine to the moon and think every crafter should have one)!<br />
<br />
In addition to the animals & food, we did play a few games. Pin the Tail on the Piggy, a Cow Pie toss (brown bean bags I made from felt), and an egg hunt. The plastic eggs were borrowed from neighbors and inside each one I put a yellow pom-pom to represent the yolk. However, one contained birthday confetti and whomever got that one was the winner. This allowed it to be fair and fun even for the littlest of participants. Game prizes included egg shaped sidewalk chalk that I got on clearance after Easter, a punch balloon that was in the shape of a bull when blown up and a wooden farm set that you could paint.<br />
<br />
I'm not gonna lie, it was a lot of hard work. But I started my planning EARLY and was always on the lookout for things that I could get on sale or super cheap that went with my theme. By starting early I was able to work on it piece by piece, a little at a time which helped me not to get overwhelmed.<br />
<br />
I had a blast planning and creating this party for him and his friends and in turn, they all had a wonderful time. Win, Win!! <br />
<br />
Now, what to do for next year........ {wink, wink}Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-605099482855012983.post-32424258915615881732011-06-29T12:57:00.000-07:002011-06-29T12:57:22.558-07:00Birthday BucketMy son will be turning 2 next week (WHAAA?!?!?!? When did that happen?). I've been busy, busy trying to get everything ready for the big day (I'll post pics of the party here so you can see what all that I've done!), which is one of the reasons I've been MIA here lately.<br />
<br />
One thing that we do to get ready for the celebration is to bring out the birthday bucket. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi931zbEeyQaKg-Hv_53wu_SzpNnMp4nS_xZDQLsOPygMDfwuEjY8kZD9Ee-GamIWWs_R6bxQCJyuxike8WEfPnImP2Qaee3GlSOBETEuYuILUKVzj56xJzvsda_hTW1nQ_IgCP1r3qvrA/s1600/dthg+205.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi931zbEeyQaKg-Hv_53wu_SzpNnMp4nS_xZDQLsOPygMDfwuEjY8kZD9Ee-GamIWWs_R6bxQCJyuxike8WEfPnImP2Qaee3GlSOBETEuYuILUKVzj56xJzvsda_hTW1nQ_IgCP1r3qvrA/s320/dthg+205.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I purchase seven small, inexpensive gifts, wrap them and put them into the birthday bucket. Starting one week before his birthday, he gets to choose one gift from the bucket to open. He gets to open one gift per day leading up to this birthday, thus creating a little birthday countdown.<br />
<br />
Last year I just purchased a bucket from the Dollar Tree and called it a day. This year I decided to jazz it up a bit. I downloaded the balloon banner from the Silhouette store and used Brady Bunch Remastered font to create my design. I cut it out on white vinyl and applied it to my bucket. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd_kpDJWgwUeg3aEfKut1cpZSro2v2MAfUnhGzI3608BrEmvoCb1gTGUKDIPVWleOYJIAp4L6cIGSHHTBlaznsJpg19gt6v7BSJkjuqDASS87WnnfWNULUP4niuvmEClWZ6JLrq7UQcvs/s1600/dthg+211.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd_kpDJWgwUeg3aEfKut1cpZSro2v2MAfUnhGzI3608BrEmvoCb1gTGUKDIPVWleOYJIAp4L6cIGSHHTBlaznsJpg19gt6v7BSJkjuqDASS87WnnfWNULUP4niuvmEClWZ6JLrq7UQcvs/s320/dthg+211.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
A couple of curly ribbons and big polka-dot bows later, I've got this:<br />

I taped the scrapbook paper together so it was all one long sheet and put it into my frame. Using the dry erase marker, I jotted down all the activities I'd like for us to do this summer.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7S6uRMCeveKoOk2rBIMZsKeUkJ5LlRITDYjsv9n9c3CLbfhXToOueHIuOEGJzYxS3_5LGXssSNsIp2XldSu9kLJLrVNDjE4IQjW03nODFILDLknWh-pg5MdWpZ9yoyBnSrzazYyqc-PI/s1600/dthg+204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7S6uRMCeveKoOk2rBIMZsKeUkJ5LlRITDYjsv9n9c3CLbfhXToOueHIuOEGJzYxS3_5LGXssSNsIp2XldSu9kLJLrVNDjE4IQjW03nODFILDLknWh-pg5MdWpZ9yoyBnSrzazYyqc-PI/s320/dthg+204.jpg" t8="true" width="214" /></a></div><br />
Quite an impressive list! It looks like a lot, but the majority of the activities are small things we always do in the summer (eat watermelon, go to the beach, go to the pool, etc....), so it'll be easy to mark them off. What a fun way to spend the summer! It'll be nice to look back at the list once summer is over and see how much we were able to do during the next few months.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-605099482855012983.post-55394202902057401492011-05-24T11:19:00.000-07:002011-05-24T11:20:28.376-07:00Tastebud Tuesday: Strawberry Fudge PieIt's strawberry season here in Southeast Virginia! <br />
<br />
We are fortunate enough to have several strawberry fields near our house where we can go and pick to our hearts content. There was a beautiful day a few weeks ago and my son and I took advantage of the sunshine and warm weather and went to pick some berries. It was the first time for both of us and we really enjoyed ourselves and I hope to make it back again soon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-fNOXqFNlm0fHh0yByqELkMaDd0b3pyj_BF4W9cLwj8jypX3wqOBrFkYrKiXRb2vfrITRlcPXZYdMAPBYNJLzRA77IzWkwVQuCKyNrtdo-RSoD_tdpj0g8hOHuNK28AhmlmdrD9jcsv0/s1600/mcf+1519%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-fNOXqFNlm0fHh0yByqELkMaDd0b3pyj_BF4W9cLwj8jypX3wqOBrFkYrKiXRb2vfrITRlcPXZYdMAPBYNJLzRA77IzWkwVQuCKyNrtdo-RSoD_tdpj0g8hOHuNK28AhmlmdrD9jcsv0/s320/mcf+1519%255B1%255D.jpg" t8="true" width="320" /></a></div><br />
We enjoyed the berries as snacks for several days, but then I needed to use the rest up before they went bad. That's when I stumbled across <a href="http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/strawberry-fudge-pie/44d77962-b0fb-408b-a98c-e0ff54519bef">this recipe</a> on Betty Crocker's website. One word: HEAVEN!<br />

This pie is rich and decadent and oh so bad for your hips, but worth every single bite! There is a layer of pie crust followed by fudge brownie then cheesecake and finally strawberries drizzled with hot fudge sauce. Remember me? Phew, I don't remember giving life permission to be so busy. My apologies for my lack of posts. It has been one crazy spring. I don't know about you but when things get hectic, I always turn to my slow cooker to make sure that we are still able to eat a home cooked meal. I think it is a must have in everyone's kitchen essentials. Throw in your ingredients in the morning, turn it on and forget about it until you're ready to eat. Who doesn't love that?!?!<br />
<br />
One of my favorite things to prepare in the slow cooker is my mother-in-law's Pork BBQ. So easy, so delicious! Please note that this is a Carolina style BBQ so it is vinegar based. Here's what you'll need:<br />
<br />

Put meat into slow cooker. Pour vinegar and liquid smoke over the pork. Sprinkle with sugar, salt and crushed red pepper. Cook on low for 6-7 hours. WARNING: Your house will smell AMAZING and your mouth will be begin to water!<br />
<br />
Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred. I add a little of the liquid from the slow cooker to the meat once it's been shredded. <br />

I served mine as is with macaroni and cheese and baked beans. You can also serve it on a bun for Pork BBQ sandwiches with hot sauce or your favorite BBQ sauce. <br />

It's bright and cheery and a wonderful thing to see when you first walk into the house.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3yrMn00c3PtmG2wxuV-J93xuOH2CEl1jif-ffspAus_k9EtZ0LX1H5vXDacWuEm0xEQFQlH7K77AatRukSiyE4W7ul6PYy_oS3S-W8doMOx7VRKyNNKSsKFAJL48iLRRkVQl949Qz84U/s1600/dthg+143.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3yrMn00c3PtmG2wxuV-J93xuOH2CEl1jif-ffspAus_k9EtZ0LX1H5vXDacWuEm0xEQFQlH7K77AatRukSiyE4W7ul6PYy_oS3S-W8doMOx7VRKyNNKSsKFAJL48iLRRkVQl949Qz84U/s320/dthg+143.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I saw the idea for the bunny and chick silhouettes over at <a href="http://simplesisterblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/easy-easter-silhouettes.html">K.I.S.S.</a> and knew that I had to duplicate them! I actually used my Silhouette to cut out the bunny and chick, but K.I.S.S. gives you links to a couple of Martha Stewart patterns that you can simply cut out by hand. <br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
The birdhouses I found in the dollar section of Target (the wreath and runner are from Target as well - just not the dollar section - bummer). I cut two of them down to varying heights so it wouldn't look so uniform and stuck them all in a couple of clay pots that I painted white. I added some Easter basket grass to the pots to hide the styrofoam ball that supports each birdhouse. <br />
<br />
<br />

The Happy Easter sign was made with an old frame that I spray painted white, some colorful wrapping paper for the background and of course, my Silhouette for "Happy Easter."<br />

The larger picture frame was one that I already had and the smaller one I found in the dollar section at Michael's. I spray painted both white to go with my theme. The pedestal for the birds nest is a cake stand that I've turned upside down and the nest itself is reindeer moss that was leftover from a Halloween wreath project and some eggs that I found at Tuesday Morning.<br />
<br />
It's clean and classic and simple and makes me smile!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-605099482855012983.post-71808199256687977912011-04-01T13:05:00.000-07:002011-04-01T13:05:40.114-07:00Springtime Subway Art<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hello! So sorry for my lack of posts. I took a small vacation last week to go home and visit with family and it always takes a little while to get back into the swing of things! I have posted several times about my spring display that I'm creating in my dinning room. Here is another piece to the puzzle:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3XBoqJoKwgR7pXF0Hnay_HABZmDYKOW3RViK86mfkenhQQbgDWZ874h69HJKaiPNZ4UC4i0OBENvd9LpFGNaEejSKDjke332Qh26V2QwxoHajxXc2SWNF_PhWy_aq0tV_AoAq1gny43k/s1600/Spring+Subway+Art.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3XBoqJoKwgR7pXF0Hnay_HABZmDYKOW3RViK86mfkenhQQbgDWZ874h69HJKaiPNZ4UC4i0OBENvd9LpFGNaEejSKDjke332Qh26V2QwxoHajxXc2SWNF_PhWy_aq0tV_AoAq1gny43k/s320/Spring+Subway+Art.jpg" width="228" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I created a Springtime Subway Art. I used blue fonts and printed on white paper to go along with my blue and white theme. You can get the printable <a href="http://www.box.net/shared/adhma61fly"><strong><span style="color: #3d85c6;">here</span></strong></a>.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I hope to post pictures of the completed display soon and then start working on my Easter display on the table by my front door (plus a few other projects......the list just keeps getting longer!).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Have a happy Friday and wonderful weekend!</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-605099482855012983.post-32550795378525871602011-03-16T12:16:00.000-07:002011-03-22T09:19:58.841-07:00Spring WreathTo go along with my <a href="http://ducttapeandhotglue.blogspot.com/2011/03/silhouette-vinyl-candles.html"><span style="color: blue;">Silhouette vinyl spring candles</span></a> I made a spring wreath for my dinning room display.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8b1DiOumsoqEaUsBYmwdkgR-B8e2Ztn8gcddkOZjhQlzFVWtwlCwn0I6meUCbqW-BBOJ3bKSYLSoOIJnQLTDUY9k-0d1-R8TD0UZv0SCKceoQF38rK2kv8iLhKsIphDeUI93eWHYziAc/s1600/dthg+112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8b1DiOumsoqEaUsBYmwdkgR-B8e2Ztn8gcddkOZjhQlzFVWtwlCwn0I6meUCbqW-BBOJ3bKSYLSoOIJnQLTDUY9k-0d1-R8TD0UZv0SCKceoQF38rK2kv8iLhKsIphDeUI93eWHYziAc/s320/dthg+112.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><br />
I started by wrapping my wreath form with white yarn. I was actually able to get the wreath form at Michaels for $1.50 since it was split. Nothing a little duct tape couldn't fix!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOh5j0CfFJ7I_9HoID5tmYdmLd1c_yDzoD2kS8_0f0PkxSGUvin9YzUxaJaBv8LnD5HmBxa_OZupS-VFYmqALpeZFA166ZjN0y7zIsWnNoAPy_ckoJ5eWa9_9ne4jtPTkjVzlKGQR9aOs/s1600/dthg+096.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOh5j0CfFJ7I_9HoID5tmYdmLd1c_yDzoD2kS8_0f0PkxSGUvin9YzUxaJaBv8LnD5HmBxa_OZupS-VFYmqALpeZFA166ZjN0y7zIsWnNoAPy_ckoJ5eWa9_9ne4jtPTkjVzlKGQR9aOs/s320/dthg+096.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then I made some fabric flowers using an old white sweatshirt that I had worn at an 80's Halloween party a la Flashdance style, some beads from a necklace that was taking up space in my jewlery drawer and <a href="http://blairpeter.typepad.com/weblog/2006/03/fabric_flowers.html"><span style="color: blue;">this pattern from wise craft</span></a><span style="color: blue;">. </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg3lZmT0YplzS0wcb0NtjCTcqBeTvcDr78mYxHmcy9KsE2CPcz8FumQhZSCdJjxIxTtFqvmLgRKd5RG51NLfPk9d0jGvMIeuy4KdsyGBYRpUf8Fbh6JxivUzH4H6z62-gbBJqNh9HFuJc/s1600/dthg+103.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg3lZmT0YplzS0wcb0NtjCTcqBeTvcDr78mYxHmcy9KsE2CPcz8FumQhZSCdJjxIxTtFqvmLgRKd5RG51NLfPk9d0jGvMIeuy4KdsyGBYRpUf8Fbh6JxivUzH4H6z62-gbBJqNh9HFuJc/s320/dthg+103.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I am not known for my sewing ability, so the flowers had to be simple to make. These were SUPER easy and turned out beautiful!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3mPfmGUH14Azfp3DWf-JOYp9M8vY2kPTSoef4jnDK_kkUtLC840Gzrb1W8Bn-_BYpluWAZBAXD7cjBgRLZUiMMD2GeRN5dCS_DAQ0YlB3JjIijpidiCdNoSwJCYITW1inLMf5NXmyaLI/s1600/dthg+107.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3mPfmGUH14Azfp3DWf-JOYp9M8vY2kPTSoef4jnDK_kkUtLC840Gzrb1W8Bn-_BYpluWAZBAXD7cjBgRLZUiMMD2GeRN5dCS_DAQ0YlB3JjIijpidiCdNoSwJCYITW1inLMf5NXmyaLI/s320/dthg+107.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I hot glued them to my wreath and used my Silhouette to make the Spring banner. I strung the banner using some twine and hung the entire wreath from my dinning room mirror using a piece of chocolate brown ribbon.<br />
<br />

I decided that I wanted to make a little something, something for the other mommies. I played on the word "pattie" and took some inspiration from <a href="http://bethproudfoot.blogspot.com/"><span style="color: lime;">it is what it is</span></a> (check out Beth's blog if you haven't already!) and created these cute little goodie bags:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia5ekmr23A19c2wTxH4Tu7KoZm4zXJGUQMk-8D2gmn0E9OI-9YPQPV1D6YKbu5gC9KPByFVeJz-4w8cgtoWNuxmRsXDWR8nUI2SbhnGxLMCi1Dh5SEKT_Bb2K5S92Ru_l0HLk6JltRc1o/s1600/dthg+083.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" q6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia5ekmr23A19c2wTxH4Tu7KoZm4zXJGUQMk-8D2gmn0E9OI-9YPQPV1D6YKbu5gC9KPByFVeJz-4w8cgtoWNuxmRsXDWR8nUI2SbhnGxLMCi1Dh5SEKT_Bb2K5S92Ru_l0HLk6JltRc1o/s320/dthg+083.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKpZtJBxN064R28LoYBXKgWULW-noqyuXL2A3w6QgDCYqsIJF3hWNWEk0Dw_F6FrPWXiLCYWVxcYR0aRHmV7GdO3DA_wx-M5-q7CLQSEGFIXodak8aH8QNiDpLO1-r9FtB_AN_IIFOUiw/s1600/dthg+085.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" q6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKpZtJBxN064R28LoYBXKgWULW-noqyuXL2A3w6QgDCYqsIJF3hWNWEk0Dw_F6FrPWXiLCYWVxcYR0aRHmV7GdO3DA_wx-M5-q7CLQSEGFIXodak8aH8QNiDpLO1-r9FtB_AN_IIFOUiw/s320/dthg+085.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><br />
I used my Silhouette to cut out the green scalloped circle and white Happy St. Patties circle, but you can easily do the same with punches. The bags are pretzel rod bags that I got at Michaels (75 bags for around $2 - even less if you use your 40% off coupon!) and the mint patties I found at Walmart ($2.50 for a bag). I used Pharmacy font (one of my favs) that I download for free from dafont.com and the shamrock was downloaded from the Silhouette store (there is a font on dafont.com that you can download that has a four leaf clover: wmshapes1 is the name of the font and the w is the four leaf clover).<br />
<br />
I thought they were pretty clever and cute and the other moms seemed to really like them!!<br />

I recently purchased some light blue candles from Walmart to put into two cylinder vases with some coffee beans I found in the freezer (Side note: I got a Keurig this summer for my birthday and LOVE IT! Consequently, I have a lot of coffee beans in my freezer that aren't being used - unless you count this project!). The candles were just ok, but I wanted to jazz them up a little. Enter the Silhouette, some white vinyl and VOILA! problem solved. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiuH6IfiDtfdP3gbwlu3VIsXUoWzTV3esKO0S3AXJ1fo_qFhfpsnMbuivM4_79-QSUMdezrYZdQQa5k0-PjhshoSAcl8PG1aFA5psbIzE8RbcvPTpPDEaBfLjFVQxB21ulfrPu6jt9jtI/s1600/dthg+066.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" q6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiuH6IfiDtfdP3gbwlu3VIsXUoWzTV3esKO0S3AXJ1fo_qFhfpsnMbuivM4_79-QSUMdezrYZdQQa5k0-PjhshoSAcl8PG1aFA5psbIzE8RbcvPTpPDEaBfLjFVQxB21ulfrPu6jt9jtI/s320/dthg+066.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><br />
They turned out so AH-MAZING! I'm in love with them! Plus, they couldn't have been easier or faster to do (bonus!). Here they are in the vases with the coffee beans:<br />

Being that this was a last minute decision and my son is all of 19mo, there isn't much of a wow factor here but I thought I would share anyway!<br />

I saw how to make adorable owls using Oreo cookies. This gave me an idea for a Valentine for my son to give to his cousins. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf1ZEb4Tsed9zfPyLugPRZwpToC7EBZDakNwIpRKVyhrRpyDXL45gdOla_sva1X6BynjXj18evlMUceP2mOWPeAoR4L0Yw2RY3e2zndisc7bjYxJFHmobpuLkzLs5xPtPqzKlVql0xCIk/s1600/dthg+056.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf1ZEb4Tsed9zfPyLugPRZwpToC7EBZDakNwIpRKVyhrRpyDXL45gdOla_sva1X6BynjXj18evlMUceP2mOWPeAoR4L0Yw2RY3e2zndisc7bjYxJFHmobpuLkzLs5xPtPqzKlVql0xCIk/s320/dthg+056.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I started with Oreos (or in my case faux Oreos!) for the body of the owl. I then melted white candy melts in the micorwave and filled a baggie with the melted candy and snipped off a tiny bit of the corner of the bag so I could pipe on the whites of the eyes. Then I added yellow & red food coloring to the remaining white to create the orange for the beak and feet. Finally I used mini chocolate chips to finish the eyes. And what do you know, the cutest owls I've ever seen!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSjnURemzzLvCSNLsxxQd4crIR4xIULzTdZyiPGmDijulJerW_jJ4owW5nwW5qQjrFrthBSlSJZwUZZB3Hi7YRTLfSYD6P-le-OmKPkcoFjqOg-yq5cJvW4AV2X-KK4X4PCDpVrjQCz5w/s1600/dthg+054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSjnURemzzLvCSNLsxxQd4crIR4xIULzTdZyiPGmDijulJerW_jJ4owW5nwW5qQjrFrthBSlSJZwUZZB3Hi7YRTLfSYD6P-le-OmKPkcoFjqOg-yq5cJvW4AV2X-KK4X4PCDpVrjQCz5w/s320/dthg+054.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I put them in snack bags and stapled the bag topper that I created to the top as the finishing touch! I just love them and I hope my neice and nephew do too! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-605099482855012983.post-89674978781280684252011-02-13T13:11:00.000-08:002011-02-25T09:07:57.275-08:0010 things I love about you......While lounging in the sun on vacation, I was flipping through the pages of the February Martha Stewart Living magazine when I stumbled on this idea for a Valentine for my hubby. I tried to find the card on her website to link to here, but wasn't successful......it is in the magazine if you want to pick it up to see her version!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnpQbUHM8n7rMfSOJPfw-pkVcW9jun-n9xcAtibCObwhh1zFRwmtrMFoDQJemX2rKZxWGGnoCvZNherQd4WVUgYQLfRM4Ew7gxxsv83McoUH_B_AsDYw8YJth8icP-ZAtN6und-YAa_tI/s1600/dthg+049.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnpQbUHM8n7rMfSOJPfw-pkVcW9jun-n9xcAtibCObwhh1zFRwmtrMFoDQJemX2rKZxWGGnoCvZNherQd4WVUgYQLfRM4Ew7gxxsv83McoUH_B_AsDYw8YJth8icP-ZAtN6und-YAa_tI/s320/dthg+049.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The magazine showed red envelopes with white notecards, but I had white envelopes with red cardstock so I just went with what I had on hand! I used my Silhouette to create 10 note cards with a scalloped edge and tiny heart cutouts. On each card I wrote one thing that I loved about my husband (you can always make me laugh, you always wash the dishes, etc...). They can be sweet, silly or anything you like. For five of the cards, I included gift certificates/cards that corresponded to the message on the card. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzPoikwsfdn8I9VO4C83Ii0cQCZet9eA-Fvtwp4cIE7C0wVdY7Bb1xXUhneZEScEmuN3Maz8NoCDE22QskwPBCalg9Uwsxv3UYEkwpDly1h2YcUpXFx7z9LYO7ifG33_Zydo1BrSuKvfo/s1600/dthg+043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzPoikwsfdn8I9VO4C83Ii0cQCZet9eA-Fvtwp4cIE7C0wVdY7Bb1xXUhneZEScEmuN3Maz8NoCDE22QskwPBCalg9Uwsxv3UYEkwpDly1h2YcUpXFx7z9LYO7ifG33_Zydo1BrSuKvfo/s320/dthg+043.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Mine were as follows:<br />
<ol><li>You can always make me laugh: Gift card to the movies to be used to see a funny film together</li>
<li><div align="center">You can always make my heart melt: Gift card to Dairy Queen (ice cream melts!!)</div></li>
<li><div align="center">You always tell me I look beautiful, even when I don't!: Gift certificate to his barber (to keep him lookin' good!)</div></li>
<li><div align="center">You would give anyone the shirt off your back if they needed it: Gift certificate to his cleaners (to clean said shirts)</div></li>
<li><div align="center">You are an amazing father: Gift card to a local grocery chain to be used for "pop" for this car cooler (he travels a lot for work and keeps a cooler of drinks in his car to keep from spending so much on drinks at gas stations.)</div></li>
</ol><div align="left">Once I had all of my envelopes stuffed, I used a gluestick to glue the flap of one envelope to the front of another creating a long chain of envelopes.</div><div align="left"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_3HhYZ6IdNFNpCRZQDuZjvcX7ydPYJprDCM-J9eJX2sJIrMA7Loj944DJiUGzVnGrVhWv73DGM2DUaaEB-nAw9nyll8WIPEp_rshndB4vrGnRAlTvMJSLZSBly9HMJvy1ytUcKD4SUnI/s1600/dthg+047.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_3HhYZ6IdNFNpCRZQDuZjvcX7ydPYJprDCM-J9eJX2sJIrMA7Loj944DJiUGzVnGrVhWv73DGM2DUaaEB-nAw9nyll8WIPEp_rshndB4vrGnRAlTvMJSLZSBly9HMJvy1ytUcKD4SUnI/s320/dthg+047.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><br />
Then I folded it up, accordian style, and sealed the top flap with a label that I, again, created using my Silhouette (see pic at the beginning of this post). Lastly, I tied it all up with a red satin ribbon and now I have a pretty (but still manly) Valentine to give my sweetheart tomorrow!<br />
<br />

Between going on vacation, working on several projects at my paying job and getting sick, I haven't had much time for anything else. I did want to post a few Valentine's projects that I managed to complete the last couple of days.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The first is one that I saw over at <a href="http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/2010/04/box-of-teacher-goodies.html">eighteen25</a> and the minute I saw it, I knew that someday I would make one of my own! It's simply a small craft organizer (I found mine at Walmart for $2 in the bead section) that I filled with candy and used some scrapbook paper, ribbon, & heart foam stickers to embellish. I delivered them to a few of our neighbors whom we're really close with. Cute, fun & super easy!!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

It has been a really cold winter here and we're counting down the hours until we've got our "toes in the water, (butt) in the sand" as the Zac Brown Band would say (er..sing)!! As a matter of fact I should be packing right now and not blogging, but that's neither here nor there! I just wanted to share this quick project with you all before we left.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt8zicMJSRhZ_inDHVfFDzMK2KftchPFPaKX5wBpa4Ds6lrsuSa7CpcWkttsdSOFzyfbQY7e02Dt6xvg50PEX99jZ2bMN3IoSP8qevSQmEpAwrnlCrX1-V6BGduBg7zrnpJpYGKVUWFHE/s1600/dthg+035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt8zicMJSRhZ_inDHVfFDzMK2KftchPFPaKX5wBpa4Ds6lrsuSa7CpcWkttsdSOFzyfbQY7e02Dt6xvg50PEX99jZ2bMN3IoSP8qevSQmEpAwrnlCrX1-V6BGduBg7zrnpJpYGKVUWFHE/s320/dthg+035.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
My in-laws will be watching our son while we're in the islands (Yes, this is a real vacation.......no runny nose to wipe, no diapers to change, no getting up with the sun......ahhhhhh!! Don't get me wrong, I love my little guy, but it is nice to be able to escape for a few days just the two of us and have some grown up time.) To countdown the days until mommy & daddy come home, I've assembled little goodie bags (one for each day) for him to open while we're gone.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL3_LeWo6T_M_u4UDLxhBwk7PxLDVJQflRr1sLFTlYoW0r3w6hP0lXwX8-t8-BwwybgeSTklnq8c2O4WouyegcCFcIiLuGoOJvLQnZaYONapRft3LsFSKscOnQLUAga-DoTGBKB2Klimw/s1600/dthg+024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL3_LeWo6T_M_u4UDLxhBwk7PxLDVJQflRr1sLFTlYoW0r3w6hP0lXwX8-t8-BwwybgeSTklnq8c2O4WouyegcCFcIiLuGoOJvLQnZaYONapRft3LsFSKscOnQLUAga-DoTGBKB2Klimw/s320/dthg+024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbx6IOEjM93zJdoi-9DdrHmHBV_6wwZ7-4vt-hdFqrs6QAyhkbyoRBzyrhCCmrLUjisLlpCe0RK37tUOCgY2Sk5zuVgwPSwTG6y62gwwgBhV6IErSmezG5AYEqU0gxBVFryZGZUWSZfxA/s1600/dthg+025.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbx6IOEjM93zJdoi-9DdrHmHBV_6wwZ7-4vt-hdFqrs6QAyhkbyoRBzyrhCCmrLUjisLlpCe0RK37tUOCgY2Sk5zuVgwPSwTG6y62gwwgBhV6IErSmezG5AYEqU0gxBVFryZGZUWSZfxA/s320/dthg+025.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><br />
Using my Silhouette I cut out five rounded rectangles (3"x6") from white cardstock and the numbers 0-4 out of different patterned/colored scrapbook paper. I folded the rectangles in half, creating a card, and glued the numbers to the front.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Hsq6Ud-fL1LMfJAPiRX1t3JcRnpzPlDR6CpflC50V_Hfu4Sd_-ufR8rJQDy02LMTfbA-5-qCBAvtovMg_mPYjzXJAyQBFrpfFbVELZ8tWG5FInRLJjYXvNfy4REOKwGGQLdOO5bkJ28/s1600/dthg+028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Hsq6Ud-fL1LMfJAPiRX1t3JcRnpzPlDR6CpflC50V_Hfu4Sd_-ufR8rJQDy02LMTfbA-5-qCBAvtovMg_mPYjzXJAyQBFrpfFbVELZ8tWG5FInRLJjYXvNfy4REOKwGGQLdOO5bkJ28/s320/dthg+028.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Inside I wrote ".....more day(s) until we come back!" With the exception of the zero card and inside it I wrote "We'll see you very soon! Love, Mommy & Daddy"<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHkQEiJNU5hDezJh0h9F_R_ngnhyHStKyht1XXHKW97u3g1VzcIcH9g2ZEY8IQPI2SyehkuJBEw-f6Kfs9zyrxHM1TgdXK0dUz8HE2JPuiaK5tmDatbRctQNtrF3y-NAKhZXK3qz5pQmQ/s1600/dthg+032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHkQEiJNU5hDezJh0h9F_R_ngnhyHStKyht1XXHKW97u3g1VzcIcH9g2ZEY8IQPI2SyehkuJBEw-f6Kfs9zyrxHM1TgdXK0dUz8HE2JPuiaK5tmDatbRctQNtrF3y-NAKhZXK3qz5pQmQ/s320/dthg+032.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I searched through the dollar bin at Target as well as the Dollar Tree to find five small gifts to put inside each bag. Nothing crazy, just your run of the mill coloring book & crayons, bubbles, book, etc....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBlKBK77cT4PSd5mCE0FLcqSmkUgyvLIxRw_wnfp6lvW31JS4jXj4qHVxxKBfJEpig4cUy1A6G2DUqRGe0iNd-sjAKinQlgJcLrvmYBT4NheioFTveQyX6v4CiY2xHSi2XCR8gnduAB8/s1600/dthg+033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBlKBK77cT4PSd5mCE0FLcqSmkUgyvLIxRw_wnfp6lvW31JS4jXj4qHVxxKBfJEpig4cUy1A6G2DUqRGe0iNd-sjAKinQlgJcLrvmYBT4NheioFTveQyX6v4CiY2xHSi2XCR8gnduAB8/s320/dthg+033.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I put each surprise in a bag, added some tissue paper & tied each card to a bag with some scrap ribbon. Now my little guy will have a little something fun to open each day that we're gone!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-605099482855012983.post-46069174854847844592011-01-29T06:22:00.000-08:002011-03-08T17:44:03.572-08:00What's black & white & red all over?<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5ISalAvQHq7uaRwRZKhqeYhE2piyZKrVIl5GPheN92G6d_wGwj1Bo6VcX650d0RycKoUv8UkjM7jXEHQJToVk0CoAiBsVbkOUmH58-3Qrpvuz7SbEsiurCLy2xbOXVsLBD-lfYKHRsCg/s1600/dthg+016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5ISalAvQHq7uaRwRZKhqeYhE2piyZKrVIl5GPheN92G6d_wGwj1Bo6VcX650d0RycKoUv8UkjM7jXEHQJToVk0CoAiBsVbkOUmH58-3Qrpvuz7SbEsiurCLy2xbOXVsLBD-lfYKHRsCg/s320/dthg+016.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Everything shown I either 1) already had or 2) purchased on sale and/or with a coupon. The love sign shown above I found in the dollar bin at Target!! I can't count the number of items I've found in that section of the store. I always stop and look at what they've got anytime I make a trip to Target (which sometimes feels like once a week especially since those are the brand of diapers that we use). The candles, ribbon & candle holders shown above were all things that I already had on hand.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

I then rummaged around my bookshelf and found two books that had the word "love" in the title. I removed the paper book covers and {bonus!} found that one book was red and the other was black! The small, square frame was purchased at Michael's with a 40% off coupon. I already had the houndstooth scrapbook paper which I used to cover the mat. Michael's is also where I found the red, glitter heart that's in the frame. It was in a pack of six (for $1.50!!) and they were actually ornaments. I cut off the ribbon loop, hot glued it to the middle of the frame and TA-DA! Cute, right??? The picture is of my wonderful hubs and I sharing a little smooch on our wedding day (have a cavity yet??) ;o)<br />

For my cupid art, I again raided my own closet and found these two black frames (as well as the one I used for our wedding day kiss picture), the damask tissue paper (yes, tissue paper!) and the red & black cardstock. A quick note on the tissue paper. I am a notorious neat freak and don't like a lot of clutter which means I typically throw a lot of things away. Tissue paper & ribbons are one exception. Any holiday/birthday, I make sure to save the bags, tissue paper & ribbons. I've lost count of how many times the "scraps" have come in handy for one reason or another. I used my Silhouette to cut out the cupid shape. Another side note: the Silhouette was the only thing that I wanted for Christmas this past year and my wonderful mom made sure I was unwrapping it come Christmas morning. WOO HOO!! I actually knew I was getting it, so I was able to tell my BIL (who drew my name for Christmas) to get me a gift certificate to their on-line store. I've been finding every excuse possible to try it out. Lucky for me, we've got several January birthdays & of course Valentine's Day. It is an amazing tool to have in your craft kit and I highly recommend purchasing one, if you can. They regularly have special promotions where you get the machine and several products at a discounted price. You won't be sorry - I promise!!!<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">All in all, I was really pleased with how my entry way decor turned out. I was also very happy that I was able to create this look for a whopping $5!!! CHA-CHING! Again, thanks for stopping by and checking me out. I hope you'll come back!!<br />
